Prohibited items include: asbestos, gas cylinders, fridges/freezers, tyres, batteries, electrical equipment (WEEE), paint, solvents, plasterboard (must be separated), clinical waste, and food waste. Hazardous waste requires specialist disposal.

Weight limits are set by each supplier (by the collection wagon’s lift capacity), not a single UK standard, but common figures are roughly 2t for a 2-yard mini, 4t for a 4-yard midi, 6t for a 6-yard builders skip, 8t for an 8-yard, and up to 15t for a 40-yard roll-on. Soil, rubble, and concrete are very heavy (around 1.8t/m³) and can exceed the weight limit before the skip is full. Always confirm the limit with your hire company.
